What type of system to buy?

If you are in the market for an anti-shoplifting system you already know how useful it is in stopping potential shoplifters. In fact simply having a system visible is often enough to steer a potential shoplifter away.

 

The first question is of course what type of system to buy. This can be complicated as there are a lot of different technologies available.

 

We manufacture Radio Frequency systems which are the most popular type of system available for retailers.

 

Radio Frequency systems can be either a two antenna system or a single antenna system usually referred to as a mono or transceiver system. We mostly manufacture our systems as mono/transceiver systems. This provides a lower cost if you have a small entrance as only one antenna may be needed. Multiple antennas can also be installed for larger entrances and makes for an easy and quick installation.

 

The detection range for our systems will depend heavily on the type of tag used as well as its size. Generally the larger the tag the longer the detection range. Hard tags usually have a longer detection than label tags due to the way they are constructed. Please note that interferences from old electronic devices, electric doors, metal gates and old neon signs can seriously harm the detection range. The mono/transceiver systems has detection equally on both sides of the antenna. We can also connect another antenna to focus the detection range between the two. We use two standard frequencies for retailers. 8.2MHz or 4.8MHz. Each have their own advantage. Before we go into the differences I want to explain a couple of concepts known as  “source-tagging” and “tag pollution” first.

 

What is source tagging:

Source tagging is a practice where manufactures apply a security label tag inside their products. This way it doesn’t block any information on the packaging and also saves time for the retailer as you don't need to individually tag all the products.. In order to accommodate the two most frequently used technologies there are normally two different kind of labels inside the product.  Unfortunately there is one draw-back from this practice. Something we call “tag pollution”

 

What is tag pollution:

Tag pollution is the problem of having non-deactivated tags that  produce unwanted alarms from an anti-shoplifting system. Since manufactures would source tag with two different kind of security label tags the store that sell it will only disable one of the two, that is if they even have an anti-shoplifting system. This means that there is always atleast one active tag when a product leaves the store. In busy shopping malls where a lot of customers bring purchases from one store to another is very common to hear an anti-shoplifting system alarm. This of course can cause frustration both for the customer and staff alike, or even worse, ignored by staff if it happens too often.

 

8.2 MHz Radio Frequency Systems

The 8.2MHz systems uses the label tags found in source tagging. This makes it useful for stores who want to use source tagged goods and are either not in a shopping mall environment or find the source tagging benefit to outweigh the problem of “tag pollution”

We do however not recommend this for stores only wanting to protect clothing using hard tags unless they are looking to upgrade the system and use existing tags. 

 

4.8 MHz Radio Frequency Systems.

This system will not alarm from source tagged items. Therefore if you do not believe you will benefit from source tagging we highly recommend this system.  Using a slightly different frequency than the more common 8.2MHz we are able to achieve a longer detection range and at the same time there is less chance of interference from other systems resulting in an extremely reliable system.  We have both hard tags and label tags available for this frequency  so you can protect a variety of goods. 

 

 

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions.

 

Can I have a system without the antennas?

Although it is physically possible to make an EAS system without the antennas at the entrance research has shown that the antennas themselves act as a visual determent making it much more effective compared to an invisible system. Because some stores may want to mask the presence of EAS antennas we designed the EASy-Ad antenna so that the antenna doubles as an advertising holder. In addition there are lots of other options available to fit any store décor and we can even wall mount the Aurora & Concord antenna.

 

How do I protect clothing on display outside my store?

Since the merchandise is already out of the store putting on a tag will only make the system alarm when people bring it in to pay for it. So, one way to protect it is to use ink tags. These tags won’t make an alarm but if a thief tries to remove the tag it will break a beaker of permanent ink ruining the clothing. Only you can safely remove them with a detacher.

 

Can people bring a tag above the system and not make it alarm?

Our systems are made to produce an alarm for tags in any position (unlike some of our competitors) and our antennas are tall enough that it covers most people. In addition our detection field extends above the antenna making it impossible for anyone to bring a tag above the system unnoticed.

 

How long does it take to do an install?

A typical single antenna install takes between 2-3 hours depending on the store layout. It may take longer if there are problems to overcome such as old electronic devices interfering with the system.

 

How far away do you do installs?

We have dealers who install all around Canada and the world. We will personally handle any installs locally within a 2 hour drive. It is also possible to do self installations on certain systems.

 

What kind of power requirements do the systems have?

All our antennas use a 12V 1.5A power adaptor. We do require that there is an open power plug somewhere fairly close to the system.

 

Will the system work if there is no power?

No, the system requires power in order to function. We can, on request, install an optional external alarm that will alert you if power is cut to the system. .

 

Can I bring my system with me if I move.

Our antennas can be moved and they are self-adjusting so installation is often very easy. However we do sometimes have to perform a few manual adjustments when we install a system. Therefore it is possible for you to move it but I would recommend you have us install it.

 

What methods of payment do you accept? Do you do any financing?

What kind of warranty and support do you provide?

All our products carry a standard 3 year warranty and cover all defects except for physical abuse to the products. In addition we are committed to customer satisfaction so we will perform repairs on our product as long as parts are available while also providing full life time support.
